Description From Owner:

The first Empire Cheese Factory was built in the late 1870s, almost 150 years ago, on the farm now owned by Glen and Sandra Petherick. The first cheesemaker was John Haig.
Today the Empire Cheese and Butter Co-Op is the only cheese manufacturing plant left in Northumberland County and the first one east of Toronto. We are now HACCP registered, the top of the heap in food quality standards!
Empire Cheese is now sold through the factory store as well as various outlets in Peterborough, Lindsay, Oshawa, Cobourg, Kingston, Stouffville, Orono, Port Perry, Markham, and Uxbridge, just to name a few.
Empire Cheese is owned by local dairy farmers who hold an election each year to vote in a Board of Directors to run the factory. The factory employs local workers for full and part-time positions year-round.
We offer mild, medium, old, extra old, 3-year, 4-year and 5-year-old cheddar as well as mozzarella and havarti. Some of our specialty flavours include caramelized onion, garlic, caraway, jalapeno, salsa, red chilies, cranberry and more!
Empire Cheese offers a wide selection of gift baskets suitable for friends, relatives, and that after-dinner speaker at your club. Our baskets include a variety of our famous cheeses complemented with high-quality crackers, jams, honey, candy, etc.

Great little place. Varieties to choose from. Well stocked with options of some sweets and drinks. Wheelchair accessible and indoor washroom. Friendly staff. Small store big enough for all hour cheese needs. Remember the ice cream However I found the cull curds to be a bit to salty Definitely a must try

A very cool small shop with more than just cheese. Local sauces, dips, nuts, and dodge and gourmet food items. They also feature Kawartha Ice Cream with massive scoops. Lots of different cheeses with a focus on Cheddars of varying strength and age. The absolute best thing though is getting there when the cheese curds are fresh.

What a variety of cheeses!!! Canadian Maple Mustard, Inferno & Chipotle, Hot Whiskey, to name a few as well as all the regular kinds of cheese! It is a large store (for a cheese store) and seems safe during Covid times! A person out front limits the numbers, masks and sanatizing at door and arrows on the floor. The view from the parking lot is even lovely! Easy access, but the washrooms were not available to the public hence the 4 star.

Well worth a stop if you are in the Campbellford area. They offer a variety of cheeses of different sizes as well as a sampling tray. There are also cheese curds for sale as well as interesting chutneys, jams, etc. We would definitely stop by again.

I love all the cheese at Empire. I make it my stop when I visit my family in Stirling. All the cheese is awesome. And there is nothing like fresh cheese curds!

I have been going to Empire Cheese since I was a child when we had a family cottage in Campbellford in the 60's. I still drive from Pickering every year to get my fix of curds and extra old cheddar (the best).

Your min 3 year old white chedder is just fantastic.Originally from England we appreciate the great taste of this particular cheese,very appealing with grapes or apple and a nice white wine. Thankyou Geoff Shelton.
