- Pop. 260,498. In the Reg. Mun. of Peel on the Etobicoke R. and Hwys 7 & 10, and C. Rds. 6 & 107,32 km. W of Toronto.
- The community was settled in the early 1820s and first known as Buffy's Corners after tavern keeper William Buffy.
- . In 1832 the post office called the place Chinguacousy. The first settler, John Elliot, cleared land, laid out village lots and in 1851 named the place after his former home in Cumberland, England.
- Brampton is nicknamed 'Flower Town of Canada' because of the world-famous roses and other flowers produced by Harry Dale Estate Nurseries since 1860.
- Toronto architect William Kauffman designed the Peel County Court House in 1865 in a pleasing and eclectic style described as Venetian Gothic.
