Pop. 2,785. In Neelon T., Sudbury Dist., on Hwy 17 and C: Rd. 90, 13 km. E of Sudbury.
Coniston is a company town founded by the Mond Nickel Co. in 1910 and now maintained by the International Nickel Co. as the site of a smelter.
The name likely came from the village of Coniston Water in England's Lake District in Cumbria. It was incorporated as Town of Nickel Centre in 1973, but the name remains Coniston.
