Description From Owner:

Pop. 696. In Portland T., Frontenac C. on C. Rds. 5 & 38, 15 km. NW of Kingston.
Brian Spike is believed to have been the first settler, arriving in 1811, and after whom, for a time, the place was called Spike's Corners.
In 1840 the village was laid out in blocks and renamed Harrowsmith to honour Sir Henry (Harry) Smith of Kingston, one of the original members of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
