- Pop. 731. In Sheffield T., Lennox and Addington Cs., on the Salmon R. and C. Rds. 4 & 15,62 km NW of Kingston.
- The community was first called Wheeler's Mills after early settler Calvin Wheeler, who moved from Vermont around 1840.
- . In 1841 Wheeler built a sawmill and a grist mill, which encouraged settlement, mainly by immigrants fleeing the Irish potato famine.
- In 1848 the post office was established with Wheeler as postmaster, and he named the community Tamworth after a place in Staffordshire, England.
